In an attempt to meet the fellowship needs of all district congregations, we propose the following volleyball tournament format:

1. RECREATIONAL TOURNAMENT

a. Coed. Six players per team on court. Ages 10 and older. No more than one player on the court at a time with club, high school or college team experience.

b. Call your own fouls.

c.Bumping or forearm pass of serve is not mandatory.

2. POWER TOURNAMENT

a. Coed. Six players per team on court. Ages 15 and older. May be divided into upper and lower divisions if enough teams register.

b. Other players (from teams not currently playing) call fouls.

c. In general, PIAA rules apply, but no libero will be used.

3. MISCELLANEOUS

a. Tournament style will be determined by the number of teams that register, but we will provide you with as many games as possible.

b. A match will consist of three games of 25 rally points over 45 minutes. The first two games will be rally points to 25. The third game will be rally points to 15.

c. Sneakers mandatory (no soft-soled street shoes).

d. NO food and drink in the gym.

e. No trophies provided.

f. Locker rooms available.

g. Tournament schedules and details will be emailed prior to event.

4. SUPPLEMENTAL RULES/INFORMATION

a. If play is in progress when time ends, play continues until dead ball.

b. Team with their back to the bleacher or Blue Jay logo serves first.

c. Teams will switch sides after the first game. A maximum interval of 3 minutes is allowed between games.

d. Team captains shall report scores to the scorer’s table immediately after each game.

e. One 30 second timeout per team, per game.

g. One point will be awarded for delay of game.

h. Practice or warm up may be restricted to the handball courts.

i. Tie breaking procedure to determine section winners:

(1) Head-to-head play
(2) Head-to-head point difference
(3) Sectional point difference
(4) Toss of coin

j. Substitutions must take place in consistent manner throughout each game.

k. Any ball which strikes the ceiling, lights, netting, cables and baskets will be considered out-of-bounds.

l. We are allowing individual (pickup) registration. If a church has additional players or too few players to form a team, those players may register as individuals. The tournament director will form as many balanced teams as possible and assign a bracket based on the collective experience of the players.

m. Recognizing that sometimes people become involved in our churches and come to know Christ through informal opportunities such as the volleyball tournament, each team may invite up to two (2) guest players who are not affiliated with the sponsoring congregation to participate. No more than one (1) guest player may be on the court at a time, and if one or more guest player has experience at the high school, club or college level, the team MUST play in the power division.

n. Proper respect for all players, spectators and tournament officials must be shown at all times. No exceptions. Inappropriate language or behavior will result in a team being disqualified from the tournament or a person being asked to leave the event. The tournament director’s decision in this matter will be final.

o. If there is interest, the committee will attempt to provide a short youth clinic with an experienced coach for players 12 and younger. Please contact Nurture Commission member Angie Mountain, angiemountain@yahoo.com, if your church would like to register youth for this opportunity.
